Eagle Project – Nicholas O.

For my Eagle Scout project, I made a variety of switches that were handheld and wall mountable for Indiana Canine Assistant Network (ICAN). These went into 3 local prisons for inmates in the ICAN program to use during service dog training. Dogs spend two years on average in training to be service dogs. During this time, inmates did not have access to a variety of switches as we do in the community. My project allowed them to initiate training with a handheld switch and then progress to wall mounted switches.

I had 33 volunteers assist with my project, totaling about 193 work hours. One service dog in training, Crunchee, attended my project. I picked this project because it was meaningful to me since I have volunteered for ICAN many times in the past. Dogs alternate between 6 weeks in with the handler and 3 weeks out with a volunteer to practice skills in the real world.
